Grist Mill, Bald Rock and new friends
We started today off by visiting the historic Hagood Grist Mill in Pickens County.
There were also other buildings on the grounds. There were two log cabins, a cotton gin, a blacksmith shop, a moonshine shack, barns and a petroglyph museum. The entire area had no cost to visit.
The kids got to experience pumping water from the creek.
A barn quilt!
There was a huge bald rock with ancient petroglyphs on it (not pictured). It was enclosed in a museum. This was really very interesting since we had just been studying about Mexican Indians and their petroglyphs. We have some right here near home.
We ate lunch on Bald Rock overlooking Table Rock. It was very sad that the area was covered in graffiti and trash. But we tried to look past it and enjoy the scenery.
Jason’s former co-worker, Rob, and his family invited us over for dinner. It was so good to finally get to meet them. I’ve heard Jason talk about them for years. Not all of their children are in the picture. Rob’s wife, Linda, homeschools their kids. So, we had many things in common. The kids loved meeting new friends.
