Downtown Tulsa and more

Today will be our last day to explore the Tulsa area. We pack up tomorrow and the next day we head to Tennessee. So we had to explore downtown today! I had four things on my bucket list today.

#1 Find the “Tulsa Postcard” Mural
#2 Experience the “Center of the Universe”
#3 Find the “Golden Driller”
#4 Visit the Mary K. Oxley Nature Center

We were successful in accomplishing all four things!

We set out this morning and made it all the way to a parking area in downtown. Then I realized I left my purse back at Fannie. So we loaded back up and headed back (she was only 15 minutes away.)

Once we made it back to downtown for the second time, we were excited to find free parking near the “Tulsa Postcard” Mural and the “Center of the Universe”.

I love this Mural. I love all the colors! I was disappointed to find the area around it fenced in. So we couldn’t get right up to it.

We found the “Center of the Universe”!  You probably have never heard of this. It is a small concrete circle surrounded by a larger brick circle that is known for the mysterious acoustic phenomenon it makes. If you stand in the middle of the circle and make a noise, you’ll hear your voice echo several times louder. Also, your voice will be extremely distorted if heard from outside the circle. No one has been able to explain why exactly this happens.

After that, we found a restaurant to eat at. The kids love Mexican food!

After lunch, we drove a little ways out of downtown to see the “Golden Driller”. The kids loved how gigantic he was!

Later we visited the Mary K. Oxley Nature Center. This place was so nice and it was free! There were all kinds of interactive nature activities to do. My favorite was an enclosed bee hive that you could open and watch the bees work.

After checking out the inside, we headed outside to walk one of the nature paths. The kids were given a card that showed them how each animal track looks like. They were eager to find tracks. Every few feet they found a track on the path (or so they thought.) By the time we finished the walk, they thought they had found every track on that card.

At the end of our walk, some other visitors gave us some fish food. The kids loved feeding the fish.

I don’t know if you can tell but it was so hot outside. We were exhausted after all this outside exploring. So we went back to the splash pad to cool off.

It was a fun but tiring day.
